About Us

Denver's Modern Sewing Studio

Unfold Den is the product of serial entrepreneurs, Ada Chen and Megan & Dylan Schmer, that care deeply about the sewn goods that are a part of our daily lives.

Clothing, pillows, bags — things that are stitched together are all around us, yet most of us have lost touch with how they’re actually constructed.

After witnessing how damaging the decades-long outsourcing effort of sewing truly was, they realized that this highly technical skill is being lost and forgotten about.

They're here to bring it back.

Unfold Den offers classes for both adults and kids, teaching the joy and confidence that comes from making something with your own hands. They blend classic techniques with a modern approach — approachable, inspiring, and yes, even cool (just ask The New York Times).

Sewing connects us — to our creativity, to the things we use every day, and to a tradition worth keeping alive.

Ada Chen

Ada Chen is the founder of Erleia, a natural skincare line focused on sustainability and inclusivity.

Ada picked up sewing as a hobby during the pandemic and quickly fell in love with it. She has been teaching classes for several years and founded the Asian Sewist Collective podcast.

Megan Schmer

Megan is the Co-Founder of Olive & Olde's, a textile based brand that makes soft tools to take care of yourself.

Megan has been sewing since she was 7 years old. She grew up taking private lessons, sewing quilts with her mom, and mending her favorite clothes as they wore out.

She loves to make functional utility pieces and modern colorful quilts. Her favorite part of teaching is watching everything "click" as people go from no knowledge of sewing to quiet sewing confidence.

Dylan Schmer

Dylan is the co-founder of Olive & Olde's and the founder of Rudiment Sales.

Dylan is the invisible glue that holds our studio, website and sewing machines together! He recently completed our Intro to Sewing class and continues to find projects to hone his skills.

He has the patience of a saint and can usually be found fixing all of the tech bugs or quietly fixing an unruly sewing machine.
